American Style Cha Cha
Underarm Turn to Left
2b. Underarm Turn to Left
Fact Sheet
Official Name:Underarm Turn to Left
Dance / Level:Beginning Bronze American Style Cha Cha
Aliases:Inside Underarm Turn
Suggested
Prerequisites:
None

The lady's Underarm Turn to Left is the less well-known cousin of the Underarm Turn to Right. Instead of occurring during the man's back rock on his right foot, it occurs during his forward rock on his left. The same hand connection is used to lead both turns: Man's left hand to lady's right.

After a chasse to right (4&1), the man will dance a rock step forward on his left foot (2,3) while leading the lady to turn to her left under raised LH-RH hold. The turn is then followed by a chasse to left (4&1), which can be used to return to closed hold, or simply remain in open facing position.

For the lady, the foot positions mirror those of the Underarm Turn to Right. Following a chasse to left (4&1), she turns underarm by stepping forward on right foot towards man's right side (2), turning, then forward again on her left foot in the opposite direction (3). She continues to turn until she is facing the man by the time she begins the following chasse to right (4&1), having completed 1 full turn to her left.

The video demonstration shows the Underarm Turn to Left danced twice, alternating with the second half of the Cha Cha Basic Movement.
