Try again now.

We have just moved to a new server for the first time in 15 years, and there were some bugs to work out in the transition. The videos should all work now. Please let us know if you have any more problems anywhere on the website.

The Flash video player has been giving us all sorts of problems since the server move, so I finally switched it up for a video player in a new format, called H.264. It should be much more widely compatible, and play easily on any modern PC, Macintosh, or mobile device including iPhone, and iPad (though we still highly recommend using our mobile site for browsing the syllabus with a phone).

Let me know if you still have problems viewing the videos.

I am having trouble viewing the videos, here is the message I receive: No video with supported format and MIME type found. Is there a plug-in or something that I can download to make it work?

Sorry, I just discovered that neither the Firefox nor the Opera browsers support the video format we're now using. Apparently there's a workaround for this, which we are currently looking into. In the meantime, please try switching to either Microsoft Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge, Apple Safari or Google Chrome, and you should have no problem.

Sorry for the inconvenience!

According to Wikipedia (not necessarily the last word on the subject), "On February 20, 2013, Mozilla implemented support in Firefox for decoding H.264 on Windows 7 and above. This feature relies on Windows' built in decoding libraries. Firefox 35.0, released on January 13, 2015 supports H.264 on OS X 10.6 and higher."

I am currently using Firefox 41.0.2 on a Mac under OS X 10.10.5. I'm not sure what format I'm seeing, but I can view the "Variation of the Week" video. Previously, I was able to view the videos using QuickTime (I don't have Flash installed).

Update: Video should now be working for Firefox and Opera browsers, as long as you have Flash installed.

We are working on adding a complete library of videos in "WebM" format, so that Firefox and Opera users can watch our videos without requiring that Flash be installed. In the meantime, please either install Adobe Flash, or use Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome or Apple Safari as your browser.
