BIG BAND AND DANCE FOR THE METHODIST CHILDRENS HOME

Through its Music for Missions series, created to engage the community through music and arts and to raise funds for charities and missions, the United Methodist Men at Lawrenceville Road United Methodist Church in Tucker will sponsor a ballroom dance on Saturday, February 15, from 7:30 to 9:30. Music will be provided by the incomparable The Modernaires swing band, known all around the southeast as one of the finest big bands for concerts or dances. The ballroom dance will be held in the Fellowship Hall, the location for last years event. Art Farmer, member of The Modernaires band, said this Valentine period is a perfect time to bring your significant other out to a reasonably priced and quality function, dance as much as you like and hear music that the whole world loves.
Admission is by donation of minimum $25.00 per couple, or, $13.00 for singles. There will be plenty of dance partners and some professional dancers will be available to demonstrate steps and styles. The donations are paid at the door but reservations should be made by calling the church at any time at 770-939-3717. The limit is 200 people and was oversubscribed last year so call in early. If there is no answer at non-office hours, leave the guest names and a contact number on the answering service. One may also make reservations at LRUMC@bellsouth.net.
Proceeds from this event will go to the Methodist Childrens Home in Decatur.
Jack Sartain of Stone Mountain, producer of Music for Missions, expressed thanks to the patrons of the series for the past 15 years and 186 events. As we move into our 16th season, said Sartain, we invite the entire community to take advantage of the opportunity to hear and see some of the finest talent in all fields that our region has to offer. The concerts are free but donations are cheerfully accepted. Our patrons, representing the entire community and not just our congregation, have been very generous over the years. This dance is a Music for Missions presentation.
As an added note Sartain reports that on Sunday evening March 2 at 7 p.m. The Dutch Valley Stompers, DeKalbs professional New Orleans style Dixieland band led by Arden Moser, will play a concert at the church.
Reverend Luis Ortiz is Senior Pastor at the Tucker church (known sometimes as LRUMC) which is located at 3142 Lawrenceville Highway, 6/10ths of a mile outside 285.

It might really help if we knew what STATE this is in. I have no idea where Tucker is.

I agree with waynelee (although I know where Tucker is--the Tucker near Stone Mountain; there probably is another Tucker somewhere in the world). Anybody who posts information about an event should give at least that much information about its location.

Also, watch out for that "Dixieland" band. New Orleans style? "Dixieland" is a word that you NEVER hear in New Orleans (26 years in the area taught me that). "Traditional jazz" is the term that a band that plays, well, traditional jazz, would use.

That's what the Band bills itself - most folks know what that means. Come on down!!!
