Meet the Dancers
Jerry & Katie Jordan Biography Jerry has been teaching swing and ballroom dancing in Southern California and around the country for over a decade. He previously owned Retroglide Dance Society, a dance studio that teaches Swing, Salsa, and Ballroom dancing in the Santa Clarita Valley that quickly became known throughout the community as THE place to learn to social dance. He teaches, choreographs, performs, and competes professionally nationwide with both his students and with professional partners. He has taught at venues like the Canyon Club, Suzy Q's, Satin Ballroom, and The Derby in Hollywood. Jerry has also taught at Hop, Swing & A Jump Dance Studio in New York City, the Golden Gate Swing Ball and Jam in San Francisco, and Catalina Dance Adventure, a swing, salsa and ballroom dance camp where he was voted "Favorite Instructor" by the students. In October 2002 he won the Pro/Am division with a student at the American Lindy Hop Championships and in August he led his swing team, the Hollywood Hornets, to 1st Place at the National Jitterbug Championships. His teaching highlight last year was a workshop in Montreal, Canada. Other accomplishments include choreography and or dancing in movies (Mona Lisa Smile with Julia Roberts, Disney's The Haunted Mansion, The Truman Show and The 13th Floor among others), commercials, and in several television shows. He has also danced on several occasions at the Hollywood Bowl, in the Rose Parade and in numerous stage productions. In addition to competing regularly in ballroom and latin on a world level, he is also an award-winning ballroom instructor and travels nationally as a consultant (coach). Jerry authored the Lindy Hop Dance Instructor Syllabus for the Arthur Murray franchises worldwide, which not only sets the standard for the instruction, performance, and judging of Lindy Hop, but also serves as a continuous source of reference for judges and instructors. Katie started dancing at age 6 and now teaches Jazz, Tap, Modern, Ballet, and Pilates to kids through adults at the studio where she got her start, The Dance Factory, Los Alamitos, and in several other well-known Orange County locations including Jimmie DeFore's Foundation for the Performing Arts, Costa Mesa and the Pacific Club, Irvine. Katie has been teaching non-stop since 1996 even while earning her bachelors degree in Dance at UCI. Katie has now finished her doctorate program at USC. She has extensively studied the Pilates Method with such well respected master teachers as Diane Diefenderfer and Ron Fletcher and has used the Pilates Method as an integral part of her doctoral residency in Preventive Medicine. She has also enjoyed using the Pilates Method in her health and wellness therapy practice in downtown Los Angeles and with many clients in Orange and L.A. counties. Contact Info
