3b. Side Samba Walk

The Side Samba Walk is a variation on the Samba Walk in Promenade (figure #3a), specifically the second measure taken on man's right foot / lady's left foot. Indeed, it can function as a simple substitute for the basic walk in promenade, but it has the added benefit of versatility which allows it to function in more interesting ways.

Like the basic Samba Walk, the Side Samba Walk is a series of 3 actions beginning with a forward walk. However, rather than extending backwards, the free foot extends sideways. This causes the dancers to pull slightly apart on the third step, allowing for a more comfortable entry into such figures as Criss Cross Botafogos (fig #7) and Criss Cross Voltas (fig #10).

Note: When Side Samba Walk is followed by another Samba Walk in promenade, the first step of the following Samba Walk (man LF, lady RF) should be taken forward & across in CBMP.
