Does anyone have any advice where one may be certified in both american and international dance styles? I know you may do so if you work for a chain studio or if you go through a Dvida program, but are there other venues available for cetification?

There's the US-ISTD (United States Branch of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) and also the US Terpsichore Society (although I'm not 100% sure they still exist).

In order to be certified, would one just need to call up one of these places and set up some sort of appointment to be tested? Or is there some sort of process one must go through in order to deal with them?

They won't even let you schedule the exam until one of their master teachers endorses you as being sufficiently prepared.

Can anyone describe the process of being tested or of their own personal experience?

Contact one of the master teachers listed on the USISTD website, or failing that talk to a teacher who has passed the certification exam.

Are you just talking about medals? You just dance each of the medals dances for whatever level with someone who's more experienced than you, the examiner scores you, and you get your medal if you pass. Maybe that isn't the same everywhere, but that's how I've always done it.

One teacher has listed his exam experiences in a series of letters here:

There's more tp the exams than you might imagine, so you will need some coaching to prepare for them.
