Advanced spining

Hi, I enjoy watching advanced dancers who are able to spin many turns in a short time. What is (are) the technique of this fast spinning and how can I develope these movements? I mean - are there any exercizes to develope it? I´ve heard something about some exercise when I hop and turn while hopping, and try to turn more and more, but the information wasn´t complete. I have some basic (and few advanced) technique in all dances, I want to do more. Thank you for any idea.

Jiri

The advanced spin comes after quite a bit of practice on the building blocks of your frame and how they work together in the spin. Your instructor should be able to help you with these steps and show you how to walk before you can run so to speak.

Otto Motoje. Go no further. At the opening page click on Learning Centre. Find Spins and Turns. After that you will know more than the average dancer about this subject. For what it is worth I was taught, on a Three Step Spin to face wall. Step to side either left or right. Travelling sideways on your toes, turn slowley one half a turn to back to wall, feet are now together, and the whole of your side from tip to toe has turned in one unit. In other words don't twist your shoulders Now simply turn the remaining half a turn to face wall and step to the side. Your feet are apart about a shoulder width. Don't try to face the way you are travelling, and on the spin don't travel. Do the Spin on the spot. Now put it into practice. Cha Cha. New York Spin on 4&1. New York the other way. Spin on 4&1 Maybe a Spot Turn to finish. How to use your arms on this move is a different subject. Watch a good tape or DVD. Most important, this is not like Modern where we for instance on a Double Reverse Spin are more likely to face the front. In Latin we are travelling sideways. All of the above is for single spins or continuous spins. Happy Spinning.
