Hi Sandra My teacher just on the Slip Pivot as a man had me getting the feeling I was going slightly back down LOD going into the place the lady was leaving. If that makes any sense. Like changing places almost on the spot. Now you can power off into the Double Reverse and flow into the Open Telemark .That is with both you and your partners head hard left. You should not be able to see each other even out of the corner of your eye. I hope this helps you and if it does pass it on to others. I always remember many years ago the great Bill Irvine saying." Sometimes you can cure a fault with a fault". there's a lot of sense there. In my case it worked. Best of luck and of course a Merry Christmas.

Lets deal with the mans Double Reverse for a change. This cured most of my faults I can now do a Double Reverse as good as any. Steven Hillier tape. Put your left foot under your left shoulder and your right foot under your right elbow. For me the last part is the most important. Also have a look if you can at a good competitor and don't take the timing for granted . Not all are counting 1 2and 3 some are 1 2 3 and. The Fallaway also.

Sandra. There is a awfull lot of corespondence concerning the Double Reverse Spin for something which is reletivaly easy to do. After learning the correct footwork and steps just keep your head hard left, this is also for the man. Try it and you will find that you will slip through this without even trying. What sometimes happens is the head gets overtaken by the body causing all sorts of problems. I think Latin dancers who spin in nearly every one of their dances could explain the importance of the head position being correct. Just say to your partner. Have you tried turning the head hard to the left and keep it there throughout the whole movement. And do the same yourself. Hard Left.

Don, yes this has ben a long thread in fact it is so long that I have grown in dance knowledge throughout the duration. I just read the article on spinning from the learning centre and can understand your comment on Latin dancers. I am actually doing those exercises to help with other spins and will also now take more notice at practice tomorrow. I think all of the talk about CBM is what I am now interpreting as winding up your ribcage particularly from the slip into the pivot. My step now into that pivot is much shorter than previous and I am very high on toes by start of the pivot. I am now thinking about the power into the the pivot itself that takes you to finish your pivot with your Back (lady) backing LOD. Is it simply momentum or should I be powering off the right leg by lowering? Sandra

Reverse pivots (like the slip pivot) lower while natural pivots have a feeling of rise.

Sandra. I have a tape by Richard Gleaves. On it he said that by the correspondence that he gets is seems that the Reverse Fallaway is a problem. He said with your partner do a Curving Three Step. Now the Lady does exactly that as the man goes into his Fallaway. It does mean that with the curve you will feel that at some point you are moving slightly against the LOD. After that the slip pivot should be a breeze. Dont forget to lower when going from one move to another. After the Fallaway get the head looking left and keep it there.

That's a very uniqute interpretation of alignment in the fallaway - I've had it taught that way, but also know more of comparable reputation who would strongly disagree and argue that the fallaway must track straight, with internal twist between body orientation and direction of progression.

I wouldn't say it's "very" advanced, it's just not in the ISTD syllabus. But if you can handle a double reverse spin with waltz timing, you should also be able to do it with foxtrot timing. It's the same step, after all.

LLuv2dance. Iìi come into the CBM debate with a question. Does one step and then move the body into CBM. Or does one do the CBM and then step. Or are the two done simultaneously. Just on the first step of a Feather Step will do. or the first step of a Reverse.
For my money the step goes before the body every time otherwise at full stride we will never get our body weight to a split weight position. by that I mean right smack in the middle whilst still moving.
