Jonathan, my old son, I've been waiting with bated breath for your subsequent article(s) on spins and turns. Since that set of lessons, I've been encountering many other types of turns in other dances and it's frustrating not to know the footwork and bodywork for these turns, especially for the Lady – pencil turn, travelling turn, spot turn, etc. When do expect to finish your very excellent guide. In the meantime, where can I get information on spins and turns. Thanks.

Stephen. If it will help i recently learnt some of the finer points of a Three Step Spin. They are. just for an alignment face the wall. Small step to the side on the ball LF still facing the wall. Without swisting the body turn half a turn bringing the RF to the LF. Turn a further half a turn to face wall and step to the side LF. You are now ready to spin again. The points given to me was, move on the step to the side, stay on the spot for the spin.
We were told that any spin in any dance is on the spot. Ladies American Spin in the Jive is one. For practise turn the half a turn, hold it. Then turn the other half. This teaches us that the whole side comes around in one piece. Forget CBM or CBMP these don't apply.

Hi,do you spin on the ball of your RF when you do your second half turn? I also notice that some gentleman spin on their heels. Is there any advantage to this technique? I tried it myself a few times. I found that if I want to do two revolutions on the same spot without leader's assistance, I need to spin on the ball of my foot then on the heel. Any advice? Thanks.

Yuvonne. On the balls of the foot. We are not Ballet Dancers. Do a double Spin if you wish, when you finish step to the side on the ball of the foot, and that means to the side. If you started by facing a wall make sure you are facing the wall when you finish and not facing the LOD. There is also some head spotting there. If you can I would suggest that a look at Paul Killick on
World Stars 2003 Dance Festival Latin. There you will see about twenty or so continuous Spins. The reason for turning half a turn and stop, then continue is practise only . Use arms can also come into this.

Thanks. Does your head spotting also provides momentum when you spin on the same spot?
