If I (male dancer) go to the gym to exercise and try to lift 130 lbs (60kilos) over my head and can not do it, does that mean I can not do lifts with my partner?

How much weight should I be able to lift over my head to be in shape for lifts?

Leland: Lifting in dance doesnt just involve hoisting a dead weight. The lift is an orchestration between two people and each has their own job to do to make it work. Momentum is the key.Say you are going to perform an overhead lift. One doesnt just stoop down and pick up the other. What happens is the person being lifted jumps so to speak and you simply keep the motion going to the end position.
