If you have a specific question, ask it and we'll be glad to answer it. So far you haven't actually asked a question that we can answer. I understand your frustration with coming into a sport that you don't know anything about that has a lot of terminology and technical points to think about, but if you don't ask an actual question then how do you expect to get any kind of answer?

Janet,

LOL!

REC! = Recommendation and meant I liked and agreed with what you were saying.

You've misunderstood my post. LOL! and no offence taken.

you people are hard to understand i mean for the people that have never heard of ballroom dancing until now and want to sign up for it, it would kinda nice if you could talk about things that we can all understand.

Was an idea I was referring to in general (and not specifically to Kimberely either).

What I'm saying is that it is not up to the poster to realize a reader doesn't understand. The onus is on the reader to say they didn't understand and ask for clarification (in a polite manner).

I'm also not saying Kimberly's post was impolite but it was nebulous enough for me that I might misunderstand it as a complaint when it was meant as a suggestion.

Kimberly. It would be best for all if you waited untill you leave Kindergarden before you consider learning to dance. Most readers of this site spend a lot of money learning the basics of dancing and don't expect to get something for nothing. We all wan't to help newcomers,we were new to dancing ourselfs at onetime and did not have this wonderfull website to help us along. A specific question will get a decent answer.John

Janet & Dave,

Some websites like the Motley Fool that used to get $1,000s of posts a day had a "Recommendation" button. If a specific post received a lot of "Recs" it was posted on a daily highlights board where readers were alerted to in theory what were the best posts of the previous day.

People used to posting on these boards sometimes use "Rec!" on boards that don't have the function ("REC" in capitals being even more).

It just says "I like what you had to say."

Dave. You have gone of the track a bit. You are now refering to Waltz and not Latin. In Waltz Foxtrot and so on, there will always be an alignment like Start diagonal to wall or the centre.
Alignment is normaly only important when considering figures used in progressive dances. Rumba, Cha Cha and Jive are none progressive dances. The Samba and Paso Doble are progressive dances as I wrote above. I mean you would be a bit stupid if you went clockwise in the Samba. I don't know about any American Smooth, but I can assure you there is no Fallaway Slip Pivot Double Reverse Spin in any of the International Style Latin dances.

Well off of the subject as well, but I could not help but notice the combo Don referred to. We have a fallaway, slip pivot, double reverse to a quick check in our international waltz and it is extremely difficult to execute! One thinkg I do know it that each partner must absolutley know the alignments. We dont dance latin, so I have no idea!
