How to get started on showcases

Hello,
I noticed that a lot of people here who have recently started to dance are also performing in showcases or at least know they will be performing soon... How do you go about doing that? I would love to perform! I've been dancing for only 3 months though.
Thanks!
Angelica

Usually "showcase" is just a fancy term for recital, and is hosted by the studio of which you are taking your lessons. Other than that, when entering in certain competitions you can choose to do a solo exhibition with just you and your partner, which is also an option.

My studio is very keen on showcases. They say that for social dancers it is the chance to really excel at one chosen dance. Therefor they try to push people into doing showcases when they see that there really is a love for dancing and the commitment needed.
I was talked into it by one of the instructors. Or at least talked into the early date as I wanted to wait for the next christmas ball.
I went to my instructor and told her that I'd love to do a showcase with her. She then told me what dances she thought I was best at (or good at). We had a small discussion what both of us would like to dance - happily agreed on tango and agreed to sit down again a week later to choose a song. Now we do practice sessions on tango only alongside the normal lessons, slowly working on different moves that will be in the choreography.

The only showcase where I take lessons is for kids, I've never heard of them doing anything of the kind for the adult dancers.... That really is a shame...
