Damain,The waltz is not easy unless you don't know how to dance and then yuou might think it's easy. Most young people prefer Latin so I sugest the Jive and Cha Cha Cha. Have Fun

I agree with John that the Waltz needs not only steps but also a lot of technique.

You need both steps and technique for whatever dance you do. I think the easiest dance for a beginner is Jive aka East Coast Swing. The technique can be mastered as you go, while the steps are not hard at first, and you can have a lot of fun quickly. And fun should be what it's all about.

It depends on your situation. If you are a learning for social dancing. It would be good to find out what others are starting with and what is played a lot, at were you plan to go dancing.

One of the keys to learning in social dance, is getting opportunities to get on the floor and dance. We go dancing in three different areas and the dances people start with are slightly different in each area. Waltz and chacha are the 2 dances people start with in all three areas we go to. Each area has a different third dance. In one it is salsa, single time swing/hustle in another and east coast swing in the third.

Waltz is harder to master than the others, but it does seem to be a popular dance to start with in our area.

To Jerry: are Jive and East Coast swing the same thing, like you said?
To Dennis: doesn't single time swing fit into the category of East Coast swing (single time, double time, triple time)?
Thank you very much.

A.I. You are correct that the swings are all one category. It is just that in the 2 areas, most poeple learn one or the other in the beginning. In the one area, everyone is on the floor for a slow swing doing east coast, when they play a fast swing or hustle song, most of them do not dance. Other area is just the opposite.
