As we are all aware the Samba is the hardest of all the dances to do correctly. But the music is the easiest to pick up the eight bar phrasing, which is the way music is written. If you get out of phrase with the music in this dance it shows up like a searchlight. If you were to do 2 bars of Voltas and another two the other side, thats four bars. Follow that with four Boto Fogos. Added to the Voltas that is eight bars of music. If you started out of phrase the sixth bar for instance, you will feel something isn't right Like you need another three Boto Fogos to fit the music, so that you can start on 1 a 2.
The point behind this is that the same thing can happen in other dances, the Foxtrot for instance, which is eight bar phrased with a 1234 rhythm and not 3412 Sometimes it is unavoidable and you will get out of rhythm, so there are many ways to get back on the correct beat. One way is to put an extra slow in an Open Imputus. But first you must understand the music and be able to hear it, or at least know what its all about.
