Free Arm

Hey,

I have been taking lessons in ballroom and latin for quite a while now, and my instructor thinks it's time that we really focus on styling. I have difficulties with using my arms and when my instructor suggests movements, it feels completely unnatural. Any suggestions on how i could overcome this problem?

thanks

Ballet classes are great for arm styling. Start with a beginner class that just does basic movements and not lots of leaps and complicated movements.
Look for an adult class or you will be in a class with 8 year olds.

Anonymous: Think of the arm styling as another dimension to your dance. Think of it as dancing a pattern all the way out to your fingertips. When you observe those dancers that are more experienced than yourself, see that they are doing the same pattersn you are but that they seem to be doing something somehow differently. They are adding the arms to the fray, that's all. Well, not quite all but I think you'll see the difference. Their free arm isnt simply hanging limp at their side but it is involved in the pattern. Give it a try and put your own signature on the styling. Owen
