I'm no expert on it ;) (I love the music too though), but if you search for Argentine Tango (google or something) I'm sure you will find what you are looking for.

Argentine Tango is entirely different than American or Int'l tango. There is no offset; you dance toe to toe. The body connection is through the chest; often there is no lower body contact. YOu look at each other, especially at the other's chest. Altho every step is led, the follower has the option of embellishing with a variety of "adornments". In Ballroom the leader often will take an extra step (e.g. when going into shadow), but in AT there is much more extensive use of "cross system" where both dancers step with the left or right foot at the same time. You can dance it to slow or fast music, to 4/4, 2/4, 3/4 time or whatever. It's weird and wonderful. And the music is like no other.

Yes, in danceuniverse.TV. there are some DVDs of Argintina Tango. But now I am not sure I will try to learn it due to its connection. I am too old for such dancing. I am 60 . . Yes, as you said, it is weird and wonderful .

If you can walk, you can tango.

One of my favorite Argentine Tango dancers is a gentleman who is 81 years old!

I have also met several people who did not start to learn tango until they were in their 60's.

It can be a very athletic, showy dance -- but it can also be a very warm, calm, connected expression of lovely music.

I took Argentine Tango classes and danced it socially for about 3 years. Got to where I could do the basics plus and have fun with it. It is an entirely different dance than the other tangos.

What I found was a rarity of good teachers. Our group was not lucky with teachers (very spacy bunch). The Arg. Tango groups are very social--lots of chatting and eating--kinda like the West Coast Swing crowd, but not near the amount of drinking. Most did only this one dance and nothing else. For me, I got bored of hearing the same style of music over and over--plus doing only one dance all night gets boring to me--even if I am holding a romantic lady in my arms. Guess that I'm just used to lots of ballroom dance variety.

I really like the Arg. Tango at the show dance level--like what they did on Broadway or the movies. Nobody locally looked anything like those guys.

I finally quit A. Tango because it was causing me to loose my hard earned posture in ballroom. You dance with your head down and with no frame--the total opposite.

Guys there are definitely lots of ladies doing this dance that are dying to get in the Ag. Tango romantic mood.
Plus, this dance is not so easy to do well even with a good teacher.

I can't help to laugh and tear for 10 minutes , when I read: the total opposite. you found the risk to lose your hard earned posture and frame with head down and no frame at all even you are holding a romantice lady in your arm
I thought , it is better to me to keep distance to A tango, but just enjoy the famous showcase. Especially , even good teacher help less to perform well and terrible head -head or face-face connection although their legs works are a little bit attractive .

LOST POSTURE- it's true, it's true!!!

All that work getting that right elbow of mine to rise up, and my AT teacher keeps pushing it down!

ROFL! But it really is true.
