As a tall lady (5-feet 11-inches tall barefoot)I dance mostly with partners who range from almost my height to way shorter than me. If you wear higher heels it won't necessarily make that much of a difference. If you keep your form: good solid frame and a committed lead, the height difference will hardly be an issue at all. If you let yourself become self-conscious over the issue, then that's when things get funky... self-consciousness is the antithesis to self-confidence. If you are confident in what you are doing, it won't matter who you are leading nor will it matter if they are 4' tall or 10' tall (okay, that's an exaggeration .

There was a fellow student at my studio who would want to practice with me. He did this because I am several inches taller than he and it would force him to learn how to adjust his frame and commit to the lead. We got to where we had so much fun practicing together and we gave each other such good feedback, that we did enter a couple of events as amateur partners. He's about 5'5" tall on a good day in places where gravity is weak. As I said, I'm nearly 6 feet barefoot. It works fine.

Best of luck.

Height difference in a couple is not as important as hip height or leg length. My wife"s inside leg is three inches longer than me,this makes it more difficult to give her a strong lead from the hips into lines etc. she is an inch taller in high heals which makes it harder for her to dance up to me,hence dance tall, but that has not stopped us from winning competitions,it just means that we have to be a lot better dancers than others.

We have the opposite problem. I am 9 inches taller than my wife. There are some moves that the height difference makes extremely difficult. We just avoid those moves and focus on moves that we can do effectively.

I have seen couples were the guy is much shorter than the lady, that dance very well together.

There also aere moves were the difference is actually a plus, so it is not the problem it may first appear to be.
