Viennese Waltz check turns

Sorry, I do not know the name of this movement in the waltz where the couple dances to the center of the floor, checks and then they turn in pivot type circles.

What is this called and will you give me a description of the footwork they are doing?

I would like to take lessons on this.

Thanks,

They're "fleckerls". There are natural- and reverse- fleckerls. They are an advanced step

Thanks Phil. At least, I know the names to tell an instructor.

You make it sound like it is a hard advanced step to learn.

If there was one pointed you would give a student on this, what would it be.

Wish me luck with it.

Gloria. Just to add to Phil's comments There is a Contre Check to change from one Fleckerl to the other. Being taught is a must.
The late Harry Smith Hampshire as a bet could do 100 Fleckerl's with a coffee cup and saucer in one hand and a plate of bisuits in the other. And not spill a drop. Sounds far fetched. I know somebody who saw it.

Hi Gloria
It's difficult to do well, and if it's done badly, it looks awful. Harry-Smith- Hampshire has a web site (google it) which i think contains some information.
I've not even tried to do fleckerls - i'd rather spend more time on other things because to be honest i think i can impress the judges more.
However, if you like the fleckerls, you should try them. They are the 'traditional' step of the viennese.
You can practise the contra check part no bother in your 'normal' viennese waltzing

Thanks for the comments.

It is not I that want to learn it, but my dance partner is determined he is going to learn these Fleckerts.
So far he has been learning and practicing on his own, for I will not attempt it without supervision with him. This is a partner issue of someone that feels he can learn from DVD's and that if I practice with him that I will get it.

He is learning from a DVD from Dance Vision with Victor Veyrasset and Heather Smith. It is their latest.

Personally, I cannot learn from DVD's and I want to take it from a teacher to give me a heads up in dealing with him on this for he will be trying it with me to see if I will follow.

I really don't know any teachers in my area that can teach it.

I am really worried in dealing with this situation though now.

Thanks for your advice but I am not sure what to do now.

Gloria
