I believe that people can absolutely learn how to dance online! In fact, I have a new website that offers just that. www.OnTheGoStudio.com There are video dance lessons available for your cell phone, iPod, or PC. Lessons are in ballroom, swing, latin, hip hop, tap, and more. All of our lessons are free. We also have videos from some top instructors for a small price.
Ellen - you said that you have to be good at learning visually to learn online, which is true. However, you learn from watching if you take lessons in person also.
We try to provide as much as information as necessary and what we think a beginner dancer can handle.
So give my website a look, tell me what you think! www.OnTheGoStudio.com

Well, I could never learn to dance from videos. Maybe if you are very talented at observing movement and imitating it you could learn some things, but I'd recommend taking in-person classes or lessons.

Do you have a partner to practice with? The main thing about ballroom is that it's moving with a partner. You need to start getting the feel of that from day 1. You'd be doing yourself a disservice if you tried to learn just your own part. You'd have to unlearn all you learned about moving just by youself and re-learn what it feels like to move with a partner.

I watched a few of the sample lessons, and I have two main criticisms (compared to other dance videos I've seen). First, they really don't give you much information about what you should be doing, so if you don't understand just by watching them, you're out of luck.

The other thing is that, especially with the latin dances (Corky's specialty), the demonstrations include a ton of technique and styling--foot shaping, cuban motion, arm styling, and so on--that are usually taught separately later in the learning process. I doubt most beginners could do most of what is shown and would be quickly frustrated if they tried.

To compare to other dance videos, go to dancevision.com. They have tons of videos, and you can preview clips of some of them. (Of course, they cost a bit more than $2.00.)

I prefer dancing in actual reality.

Hi everyone,

I'm fairly new to Ballroom dancing but I am fairly good with computers. I recently found an interesting website that has online dance lessons, offering Ballroom, Latin, Salsa and other dance styles. The site tries to teach you how to dance over the internet. The website I found is learning2dance.com .

My question is, there are a number of sites that offer to teach you how to dance online, including ballroomdancers.com. What do you guys think about online dance lessons? Can you learn to dance from a PC? And what do you guys think of www.learning2dance.com?

Thanks,
Ballroom Dancer.

I have looked at the Internatial basic Waltz Nateral Turn unfortunatly there are several errors such as turning on the first step, second step not going forward in the same direction, stepping back on step four he has fallen back onto the heal. You can learn to dance from this site but if you want to get better you will spend hours and lots of money just to correct all your bad habits. This instructor is best known for his Latin Dancing so his technique may be a lot better in Latin.

Hey, Dancin-Dave, I tried to access OnTheGoStudio and got a 403 "Forbidden" error. Do I need to register someplace to get access to your site?
