Hello..its my first time posting. I'm just curious how most of you dancers got started? Where? How old were you.. because i'm already 17 and im looking so hard to try and find a place to ballroom dance. I love salsa, and i took about 10 lessons at arthur murray, and of course it was WAY too expensive. Dancing is my dream and im looking everywhere for a dance place that can help me continuously..I'm going to be a senior and if only i could go to a college that was a dancing school..mmm. I have to start.. as soon as i can. And i know i can be good, my personal trainer was so impressed with me at arthur murray, he told me all the time how good i could be.. do you think I can do it? how do i start?!?

I live in Vancouver Washington, but could possibly reach the Portland Oregon area, I would like something affordable..Arthur Murray is too expensive for a 17 year old. I'm looking to being involved in: competitions, social events, or even just out and about in different underage dancing places. Where should I start? Thanks for reading!

There are many which are, but not officially.

Do a web search of the name of the schools you are interested in and the names of specific dances ("ballroom" will often get you too many hits about non-dance events happening in ballrooms). Find some email addresses of involved students and ask them what the dance scene is like. Time your campus visit to when they are having an event.
