I don't know exactly where to post this..so please don't be upset. But how long have you all been dancing? I'm 17 and just wanting to start but I want to maybe become a professional someday.. do you think thats possible? ive only had 10 lessons from arthur murray, but it got way too expensive for me. my dream would be to be able to go to a dance college, but i'll be a senior this year..if i find a place to take continuous dancing all year..and I get okay..good... do you think thats realistic to get into a dance college..? Please respond, my passion is dancing..i need input from the real dancers out there. :)

The answer is-- YES-- suggest the easiest path financially, would be to attend classes at a local independant.Let them know your intentions .

You will need to decide whether or no, you wish to persue American style , or International .

Given time, you can be accomplished in both. the process takes time, and if you are going to school, then your education must be priority . ( always good to have another career )

BYU I believe, still does dance auditions-- the requirements may have changed, so check .

Thank you. Since I have not danced much, I believe I would choose international style, mostly the difference is in the feet.. correct? Also, what did you mean by attending classes at a local independent?

Independant-- a school that that is not a " Franchise " -- not that they are bad, just more expensive .

The differences,--- way too complex to explain in a few words .--- you will come to know .

Do a lot of research and learn as much as you can outside of lessons as well. Get to know more about the ballroom world. Educate yourself by reading, dance sites, videos on youtube, etc. You need to be self motivated and can't depend on other people to help you get where you want.

Look for independent studios and teachers. Go to competitions and see where the best dancers come from. Present your teacher with your goals from the very first lesson.

Also, you don't have to go to a dance college. I'm pretty sure that the only one that offers a ballroom program is BYU. Many dancers attend college in something else and train and compete at the same time- it's different than ballet and other dance styles.
