Oprabob. Yours is caused through damage. If Luv2Dance has no damage as the cause then there has to be another reason for the arthritis. Maybe years of eating the wrong food. I will add this. I went to my doctors and standing in for him that day was an elderly doctor, who I think was retired. On his left wrist he was wearing a copper bangle. What is there to lose. You can get one from the local chemist for a couple of dollars. The late film actor Anthony Quinne used to wear a magnetic bracelet on his wrist.

Dear Ralph,
Thank you for taking the time to answer my query. You have certainly had a painful time and I'll certainly heed your advice.

I know people who swear by glucosamine supplements for arthritis. You might want to ask your doctor about them and do some research on them youself.

Like most self employed dance teachers I could not afford to cancel many lessons. Not so much the money but the pupils don't take kindly to too many cancellations. I originally booked an appointment with my doctor because of a blood blister in my mouth and because he had not seen me for a few years he decided to check my blood pressure. Just a little bit up! (that would have been from my whisky)I had to call back in a month. I did this and everything was fine. BUT, I must still keep taking the tablets. After approximately 9 months I developed Gout! Doctor said he would take me off the tablet because thats what caused it. Just when it was almost cured I got SHINGLES. Then he tested me for cholesterol. Just like the blood pressure, a little bit up! From this I had pains in my hip joints. This was diagnosed as Arthritis because of my age (74). Last Thursday I took a taxi to the studio just to do technique lessons. Reason being I could not bend my right leg. Today, I'm almost normal - one week later. Why? Because I said **** to the tablets. I apologize to the dance students for including this message. So here's a dance question: How and where can I use inertia energy to improve my movement? Would this improve the balance and movement from a promenade position for phil.samways?

well done! - combining my promenade question with an arthritis discussion!!
In case this comment fails for the fourth time, i'll keep it brief.
Have you had a scan which shows this arthritis? your comment makes it sound like a "at your age it must be arthritis" diagnosis.
Nurofen plus is the best i've found for joint pain relief, but it can be hard on the stomach.
glucosamine works but it's more a preventative than a cure.
keep exercising unless the pain is too severe to allow proper movement. It's vital to keep muscles strong as they stabilise the joints.
I could say much more, but it might not post. >
On the promenade thing - i think i've solved my problem - i was coming out fractionally too late, not getting my weight properly over my foot on 3&, and this caused me to rush into the following figure.
Inertia energy and movement? One area is the use of lowering to create flight (energy of movement horizontally) and of course the opposite - rising to cancel movement and to hover.

lluv2dance. I've got a feeling you already know the answer to the Promenade question. Surely if you follow the correct technique that happens on a Toe Lower before a Heel Lead, mainly the controled lowering plus flexing of the knee whether it be from an Open Telemark or an Open Imputus. It might be worth looking at the tapes to see just how much they lower. We have both Chris Hawkins Modern and Michal Maulitowski and Joanna Leunis Latin demonstrating here Sat and Sun. Now what have I to look for. The pulling of the heels in Foxtrot and now a Promenade.

Just a word to the wise...not all glucosamine/chondroitin supplements are created equal. (They are expensive, but it doesn't always pay to shop around for cheaper). My patients are dogs and cats, but I tend to stick with the brand that I know is reliable...you might want to check with your doctor before choosing a supplement.
