your video of the feather step begins with left foot, my understanding is --R-L-R what do I start a " three step " with. Many scripts I attempt to read 'sic' start with one LF walk then feather then telmark turn which puts the feather as R-L-R,where L-R-L comes up it terms the move as A 3 three step --I am confused

he starts with a preperation step on the left.

the feather is RLR, or often written RLRL with another step tacked on the end.

depending on whose version you use, the three step is either RLR following the feather, or LRL with the L being the fourth step tacked onto the end of the feather.

it may sound like a mess, but this dance needs extensive in person instruction to explain its technique. figuring out when one figures stops and another starts is a total non issue in comparison.

part of the reason, in times past, it was generally accepted that starting and or finishing on a " Q ", was not appropriate, as the momentum could be affected , hence sometimes, a slow was added ( called the prep. step )

if you watch Profs competing in Waltz for e.g. you may see them commence to move on 3 ( prep ) " setting " up the drive for 1.
Prep steps are quite common, but not used in exams .
