As a team member in my dance academy, we are learning the Int'l V.Waltz, but i have a question regarding the sway and the head. As i see from many videos i watch on youtube and in the learning center of this site, i can see that the dancers don't do the sway and the head does not turn with the movement, there's only leg actions. My teacher tells us that we need to turn our heads on the 123, and on the 456, is this true. And how do we do the sway action without showing that we are doing it.
Thanx for ur help.

Well, i'll be interested in the responses from more experienced dancers myself!!
but a couple of things. You can't do sway without it showing. My understanding is that there is sway on the natural turns, but not a lot. Looking at the learning centre on this site, there indeed is some sway used. But little if any on the reverses. You will only achieve a natural-looking sway if you have good flowing body flight (or should that be the other way round?? I guess the 2 go together)Don't do sway just because you think you should be doing it
Head movements...You will see top dancers doing subtle head movements. However, if you're just learning the dance, it's probably best not to attempt to do anything except keep the heads in normal closed hold position.

Phil. If you can find your way to WWW, emotiontv.es ( which takes a while to load ) , you will see that what you are saying is correct. No Sway on the Reverse and added to that a minimum of rise and fall. Those shown are the best Amatuers around today. I would say on the Natural most of the dancers are using a minimum of Sway and also very little rise and fall. Length most certainly.
I had a lesson very recently and was told I am not getting onto my second step of a Natural quickly enough. Its no good putting that step out as we do on an ordinary Modern Waltz. With the speed of the music i would be continuously chassing the beat. Also to remember . No two people within a partnership Swing at the same time. It's I go , you go in that order. This I have been told on any Standard dance excluding of course the Tango where there is no rise and fall or Sway or Swing.

As far as head placement, I've always heard to "look at my watch." I used to always look around, and was always chastised for it!
