We live in Ontario Canada and have been searching for establishments to buy or rent beginners ballroom gowns & latin outfits. Lots to buy online, but we want to be able to visit a shop and try on. Right now I wear an XL. I have been surfing classifieds online with no luck. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

There are very few places that rent out costumes. I have noticed that often if you go to a competition, vendors have gowns, etc. there that you can try on. This probably doesn't help much, but I am not to sure of many places where you can rent outfits in person. Good luck!!

Timenroom, thanks for the info. I figure that I will have to buy, which is fine. I just haven't been able to find vendors in the Toronto/London area, as yet. Happy dancing!

There are not really any retail stores that sell ballroom dresses as far as I know. Some online sellers will allow you to try on the dress and return it if you don't like it.
Rhythmicrentals.com rents dresses and you can do a try-on just for the cost of shipping. Also, ask professional dancers and experienced amateurs in your area where they get their dresses. There may be local dressmaker who could make a dress for you.

Thank you for your help, all. I found a dressmaker right here in town who competes, with her DH, in western dancing. She makes their costumes, and we have hooked up. I will have my new dress in time for our event. They have a website http://www.dwus.org/
and list ballroomdancers.com in their links. This is the best site for we new dancers! A wonderful resource. Thanks

There is a place on Dunwin in Mississauga, called Mirens's Fashions. It is mostly kids but does have an adult section.

Try amysafter5.com
that's were I get mine. Although, they are not in Canada they have an awesome return policy if the dress does not fit all you have to do is send it back and they will refund your money. It makes buying online so simple and safe. You don't have to worry about being stuck with a dress that does not fit you. I hope this helps.
