what is a good schedule to follow with an amateur partner when you are both beginners. My studio offers free practice time that is supervised for hour and half. obviously take advantage of those. also should you take a private lesson a week or group classes? i think my studio group classes is just american style and im interested in learing international. so one private lesson a week and the free practice time good? It also depends how many days we can make cause we both work and have school.lol im trying to get my friend to take up dancing and curious on how i should approach a schedule for us to follow if he decides to do it! lol hopefully.. and advice would be helpful! :O)

It depends on what your goals are. The more you practice, the better you get. OTOH, if you practice something wrong, then you have to go back and fix it, then practice a lot more to break the bad habit.

So, practice what you have learned, giving as much time as you can afford. I'm not sure what supervised practice is. Is there an instructor there to help, or does it just mean that's the only time when the floor is open for practice.

Do they also let you practice "unsupervised", or do you have to rent floor space for that. At many studios, if you are taking private lessons, they will let you practice for free whenever the studio is open.

i think the supervised is there is somebody there to help you if you need it .. im not too sure if you can practice when group classes are going on but in the afternoon i think you can come and practice anytime.. but this is good to consider when you are practicing. thank you!

LFCirillo. What is more important is how you practise. If you are into Latin. Could you practise for over two hours in the Rumba going to the Fan Position and then a Hockey Stick Turn. This couple I watched at that time were the absolute best in the world did just that.
A lecture I went to. In it the lecturer said that if he was adding a new group to his routine he would first practise it for at least three months before introducing it to the competition floor. The key word here is repetition repetition and again untill it is perfect. Could you spend the whole of one practise session on one piece . That is evidently what it takes. If you aren't doing it you can be sure some of your competition is.
Boring you might say. But it isn't if for instance on a Spot Turn that you make sure that on the last beat before the Spot Turn that's beat 1 that all your weight is on that foot and the opposite hip is higher than the one you are standing on. After stepping through ( that is after the hip has lowered into a neutral position )make sure that the weight is over that foot with the whole of the foot in contact with the floor before turning on the count of two and. It's not finished yet. Look at the foot that is in front on the count of three. Has it continued to turn outwards. It should. Then start to wOrk on your heads and the eye contact.Do it in that manner it will never get boring. Good Luck.
