It's worth drawing attention to Luca and Loraine on youtube dancing the Foxtrot. Ladies if you want to see a perfect Feather Step and Reverse Turn danced by Luca with Loraine, apart but in perfect synchronization side by side. They dance sixteen bars as an introduction with LUCA ALSO DANCING THA LADIES STEPS. You will also notice the long coat down to the knees. What it does do is gives a perfect line. More about that maybe later. The solo stuff is what we often do in our studio, ( mostly Basics). Sometimes the lady has to do the mens steps also. It gives a person more understanding than just being able to do our own steps. This happens in Latin also in our technique classes.

Serendipidy. I agree. Top notch. Are you referring to the video entitled "Foxtrot Performance"? There I see Back Feather, Weave, Reverse Wave, etc. At which point does he dance the lady's steps? If you could give me the approximate frame time, I would like to take a closer look. Thanks.

Nigelwee. You've got the right one.I don't think I can do frame by frame and there is Sixteen bars of he and Loraine doing the ladies step. Do you see that magical 2 x 8 is 16 bars of music. That's the intro. Before that directly the music starts we have that magical 8 bars followed by the 16 bars.
As they enter the first of the sixteen they do a Feather Step starting on the left foot. Then a Reverse Turn into a Feather Finish but checks after the the Feather Finish on bar four and goes into into what would be the man's Feather Step which I think could be a Wave. Then another Reverse Turn and appears to repeat the 4th bar on the eight bar except this time they go into a normal ladies Feather . That's as far as I have got with the decoding.
Why I have used the term magical is because we have people here who are under the impresion that that anything can be put together as they wish. If they could only count they would find out our wrong they are. Luca's other Foxtrot goes for 24 bars . 3 x 8 = 24. Is there anything you can see there that is of interest apart from the beatiful dancing. Good Luck.
After that bar four he appears to brush the left foot to make sure he gets the Feather on beats 1 2 with the right foot. Take note you guys who think you can dance on 3 4 1 2. What do the experts do. Look for yourself.

Serendipidy. Thanks again for your description. I think Luca does a prep step before doing the first Feather Step, and follows the Reverse Turn (with Feather Finish) with a Three Step, then a Natural Weave.

You're right about not putting just anything together: what gives their performance that sense of rightness is this very attention to the rhythmic structure of the music. Not to mention all the other aspects of their technique. A real joy to watch.

Nigelwee. If you are looking at bar 4 which starts after the first eight bars. I think you will find it is not a Weave after the Feather Finish which ends on bar three. You have four beats to find your way to a man's Feather Step starting with the Right foot on beats 1 2. It's not a Telemark either. It is more in keeping with a Hover type action without the Hover which is also repeated on the eight bar, coming out this time with a ladies Feather Step.

That's another way to look at it. I wonder what others think?

OK. i guessed it was on Youtube, and i found it.
My reading is that he starts with the ladies' steps feather - reverse turn - feather finish. Then he does what looks to me like a reverse corte sort of movement, and then comes out doing the man's steps for feather, reverse turn, feather finish. Then there's a change of direction movement. I haven't studied it any further.
I do notice that in the feather - reverse turn - feather finish, he dances step 1 on beat 1&, step 2 on beat 3, and step 3 on beat4&....Proper foxtrot!
