Foot speed vs Body speed.

Hi to all,

Am I correct in assuming that the foot speed is the one that relates more to the timing of a dance, while the body speed is more constant?

With advanced dancers, I've seen the body speed increase to fade away into hovers and then back to a more constant speed which was used previously.

In a Slow Foxtrot, would it be good practice to dance a Feather Step, Reverse Turn, Three Step into a natural figure, and try and keep the body speed the same?

The 2 may vary depending on the figures being employed .

You need to seek a teacher who is conversant with the theory .

LLuv2dance. Google Luca and Lorain Foxtrot Demo. Take a close look at bars 13 to 15. Watch for the pauses on a couple of the Quicks during those three bars of a Wave. For what its worth I doubt there is no definite answer to your question. Here we go again. The body follows the feet. The feet carry the body. One of the only times the body weight is in front of the foot is a Marcus Hilton type Open Telemark with the amount of sway he applies to step three. Iv'e put that in because it is part of the Body v. Feet.
I'll add a bit more to this. If we stand facing down the floor.. feet together will do. Have somebody stand behind with there hand in the middle of your back. Without warning get them to push. You will find that the moment the body feels it is out of balance the feet take over without being told to go into action it will happen..This with us is inbuilt. The feet will always have the natural ability to move faster than the body. Who doesn't agree with that.
P. S. The foot will always beat the body unless it is forced not to. If the foot travelling faster wasn't a natural action I doubt if any of us would be able to move. We would be continuously falling on our face

Actually. its NOT the foot that moves first.. its a combination of the knee and body, with the pitch of the body fractionally ahead .

The shift of the body weight over the standing foot/leg , precipitates a flexed knee action.. or as is stated.. body falls.. leg/foot catches

Even Gleave agreed with this principle .
