Help for Old Scotty Boy's Zig-Zag ?

FoxTrot - Our Zig-Zag is a simple little step. We have the timing, footwork, and ect. But it still does not look good! Should it be Crisp & Sharp, or Smooth curving steps. We look like we are just trying to squeeze by each other!(I realize these words really do not explain what I mean, exactly!!) We have practiced it a "Million" times, and it is just missing something. It is so strange Silver or Gold Level not a problem, but go back to that one particular basic step, and it's just not quite right!
Any suggestions or Anyone Know what I am trying to say? LOL ScottyBoysDoll
