Hey my name is Nathan and I do International Latin Dancing. My partner Yulia also takes lessons. we have 2 group lessons and 1 private lesson per week. My teacher told me to come in every day and practice if we want to get better. My partner refuses to go in and practice. Help please. How can I motivate her and how many hours do you think is enough.

ok, now this is wahat i tell my studenys...

Coming in more regularly will definately improve your dancing, youll better understand the music, floorcraft and its a safe enviroment to practise in. The ratio goes 1:5, meaning for evey one hour taught, you should have 5 hours practise! and say you have difficulty with a certain step or sequence, there is always teachers around to assist you...

If you state that your partner "refuses" to come in, it sounds rather negative, find out the actual cause for her not wanting to.Remember, one cannot ever practise enough on ones dancing, the only effect it will have is great exercise and much more improved dancing abbility aswell as appearance.

If there are un-partnered girls in your group class, you could practice with one of them. This could have a variety of possible results good or bad, but one possible outcome is that your partner realizes you have other choices and starts putting more effort into the partnership. Another is that she gets angry with you, walks out, and the person you were practicing with becomes your new partner. And yet another is that they both get angry with you. As always, precede with caution.

Why is she refusing?

You can't get her to come or make an intelligent decision until you know why.

Are her feet hurting too much? Does she have a jealous boyfriend? Are there other commitments taking her time? Maybe she doesn't like dancing as much as you do. Maybe she doesn't want to dance with you and is only dancing with you until she can find someone better.

Who knows? None of us do so none of us can give you good advice.
