ok Bear, what is it exactly that you want to know, coz Like Ive said, Samba is my ultimate! so I have all the history, research, facts and more... if you are interested...

But my opinion would be... its a very fun lively dance, danced in Brazil. You use strong but fluid body motion. As far as the count goes... both 1&2 and 1a2 are accepted, its generally a fast-ish dance... I would say 52-58bpm...

Bear. One of the difficulties with Samba is that the Rhythm within the steps can change from one move to the next . You only have to look at the Basic 3/4 1/4 1. Then look at the Corta Jaca which is 1 1/2 1/2 1/2 1/2. Then we might go into a Whisk 3/4 1/4 1. Who said the Samba was easy. Then we have fit in that infernal Body Tick.

No one would disagree with the "split " timing aspects, but... Samba music is so distinctive, it virtually tells one where to place the emphasis.

One could make the same case for tango.. the changing of beat construction within the first few basics, is generally confusing for most beginners..( this is the case with most of my beginner students )

Terence. "One can make the same case for the Tango ". We can't agree with that.In the Tango we have a couple of changes in rhythm only. In the Samba there could be three changes in timing within half a dozen bars of music. Just take a look at the beat value for a Promenade to Counter Promenade Runs.
3/4 1/2 3/4 3/4 1/2 3/4 3/4 1/2 3/4. Throw in Cruzados Locks in Shadow Position 1/2 1/2 1 1/2 1/2 1
What step in the Tango can you compare with that little lot.

No one did say that Samba was easy.

But the varied timings are fundamental to the figures to which they belong, and are not difficult unless you have no rhythm. After about five minutes, the same could be said for the bounce action. Infernal? But then it must be difficult co-ordinating six feet.

Everyone has Rhythm ( your very heart beats with it ) and the way we "walk ".. its translating it to motion, as in dance, that is the problem..

Actually, my heart doesn't beat with accented beats. Perhaps this is where I am going wrong?
