Dear Sirs,

Your video clips of the ballroom forward and backward walks are excellent. Do you have video clips for the tango walks.

I look forward to your reply.

Yours faithfully,

Marilyn1.

Marilyn1. It might help if you dont already know. A Foxtrot Backward Walk is a Toe and then a Ball then a Heel.
A Walk Backwards in the Tango is a Ball then Heel.
There is no sliding of the feet or dragging of the Heel, and the steps by both the man and the lady should be completely silent. No sound at all.
Andrew Sinkinson had the class paired off and we had to complete one circle taking 16 Tango Walks exactly. Without a sound. Then we did 8 and then 4
For the record . A Walk on the Man's LF is a Contra Check Position as is the first step of a Progessive Link. The directon of the second step is predetermined by the first step which makes it mandatory .
I doubt if it would be possible to show any of this clearly with a computer drawing

Actually, the " toe " is STILL used in a backward walk.. the difference?.. the immediate placement of weight to the ball of the foot, and the division of weight maintained between the feet.. ankle usage is still required.

Sink. is only echoing what Scriv. said, by and large, with the one above difference.

its also interesting to note ,how little " curve to the left in fwd progression ,is seen in the actions of many of todays top Pros, and even a suggestion of " swing " .

One other characteristic that has virtually disappeared is the abscence of " stillness ". ( Irvine made reference to this, in one of his lectures in NJ )
