Pointing toes in Rumba

When I was practicing the rumba walk, I noticed my pointed toes were really ugly. All my toes except the big toes just bent all together. (I don't know how to describe it, but I hope it makes sense.) What's wrong with my toes?

I heard my teacher once talked about toe strength. Does that really matter? If so, any tips on how to improve that?

Thanks a lot!

Maybe you are pointing your toes too hard? Toe strength is more about being able to grab the floor with your toes to improve balance, assuming your shoes fit the right way.It is also about foot articulation. If you don't like the way your toes look do the movements in the mirror and train your toes to stop scrunching while you do the proper pointing. Teach yourself what you want, but know that some toe scrunch is inevitable,

Babyruth. You should try to find a DVD called Innovation Rumba with Slavik and Karina. They do go into detail. You will notice that on a Rumba Walk thay drag the tip of the toe, but with the heel high off the floor. That is the none standing foot coming to a position under the body before going past. If you find it difficult getting to the very tip of the toe of that rear foot it is most likely caused by not inclining the body to the point of imbalanced. This is covered on the above mentioned DVD. You might find it at this moment in time easier to Google "Rumba Walk Warm Up" again with Slavik. How long should you do these Rumba Walks. Former World Champion Karen Hardy says forever, which is another way of saying every time you get a spare moment..Another former World Champion Alan Fletcher said. If he were to write a book he would change ball flat to inside edge of big toe. If before your lesson you do not do at least 10 minutes of Rumba Walks to music, you have wasted half of your lesson.
