At present, no comps, altho there was one held ( I believe ) in Ireland a while back .

The WDC is promoting it, but knowing english schools, its going to be a hard sell.

And yes, the States does accept foreign competitors unless stated " Closed " comp.

thank you terence2 for your reply. I have been looking at some of the US competitions and there seem to be a lot of pro am divisions and it is quite confuring to see which one we would be eligible for? I am gold bar level in international style..do you have to dance syllabus steps or do you have freedom to dance any steps?
Thanks

There are fewer competitors in International Style but most large comps will have entries for this style.

You would want to, I would guess, enter into the Open or Closed Gold. You can enter your own age division and the one beneath yours. You can do individual or scholarship dances which are a little more like a real comp with dance offs for placement and small prizes. You might want to go and watch and watch a couple of them first to be sure you at the right medal for your skill set.

Open Gold gives you freedom to basically dance what you would like within the style of the dance....but NO LIFTS...at all! You will be disqualified. Closed Gold, for this you can look and see on most comp websites their list of accepted dance steps.

Good luck!

thank you so much for your reply, yes that information is really helpful.

I have been watching a few videos online to see if it is the right level and the open gold seems to be the right level.

My teacher and I are both of a similar age (29) and currently both have no partners so this was another option we have been looking at as we are anxious to compete.

I take it we would just contact the organiser directly if we decided to go ahead?

Thanks again.
