Waltz's swing action

I hear about "swing" action in waltz but don't quite get it. I understand sway, it goes sideway. I was told swing is smiliar to sway but goes forward/backward.

For swing, if the lead is leaning/arching back, what is the follow supposed to do to match the shape? If the follow leans forward, wouldn't she be sticking her butt out?
