Hi all I was just curious to ask anyone who cares to respond to his how much luck they have had in finding a dance partner ... male or female both .. besides on this exquisite website of Jonathan's .. I also have ads on several other dance websites for a dance partner .. but never receive any responses ?? ? .. Is anybody else having the same problem/would like to sound out/share their views/thoughts/opinions on their experiences and the suffocating "wait wait" time slipping away while others are out there dancing their heels off and I am searching websites on a saturday nite to no avail ???? Anybody with a keyboard, send a message .. thanks

I think most partnership connections are achieved via word of mouth and face to face communication. I've posted partner ads on several different sites and the only replies I got were from people who didn't seem to have read my ad! Once a guy from Italy wrote me about a partnership, and I live in California and never said I would relocate. Another time I said that I was looking for an amateur to dance in Novice-level competitions, and one guy who replied did not want to compete (and was a pro besides) and the other was a pro living 100's of miles away -- turns out he was looking for someone to do Pro/Am with. I was like "what part of 'looking for an Amateur partner'" was not clear in my ad?

I think some people do get lucky through online ads, but I'm not one of them!

The "wait wait" time can be soul-crushing. My best advice is to not give up and also not just wait. Actively look in your area for a dance partner. Tell everyone you know that you are looking. Take group classes to try to meet partnerness dancers. If you meet someone nice who isn't perfect, but you think you'd like to try working with them, then ask them for a trial partnership.

Sometimes people can't find partners because they are needlessly picky. Sure, for example if you've got the drive and talent to make a national semi-final and have already had some success and need to find "the RIGHT" partner, then you need to be a lot more selective. But if you're trying to find your first partner, or are on a lower level and are doing this for fun and personal fulfillment, then you can think about widening your criteria so as to increase your chances of meeting someone who you can partner with.

Good luck!

Hello Laura I just logged on and read your response .. thanks for doing so .. how are you ? The experiences you describe you have had with "partners" sound similar to mine .. Your suggestions to find a new partner are appreciated but didn't ever work for me I am A.Murray/full bronze instructor trained and really need a partner on my skill level or higher, a "beginner" -- even if it was a good one -- just doesn't cut it .. been there done it .. ( .... ummm .. I think the same guy from italy you mentioned in your posting wrote to each of us .. lol lol ... I wasn't interested in him either .. but he was persistent !! lo llol . .Anyway, thanks again for responding, its nice to know I am not alone pushing bricks up a hill .. good luck to you too .. take care

I've had some successes in the past. I'm meeting someone actually next week, someone that I met through www.myDanceFriends.com

THe most important thing is to let other people know you're searching and keep going out to social places and group lessons.

I don't mean to be sarcastic but, with all due respect, why not go out to socials instead of searching websites on Saturday night. The other responses are right - get out there and start dancing! Have some fun. Then, other people will see what you can do. If the word is out, maybe someone will approach you for a partnership. I was dancing for 2 years before I found a partner. (Incidentally, I wasn't looking for a partner - we just happened to be at the right place at the right time - a social).

Regard,
Hoofer
