Welcome Dave,

What does OLY mean? I am not familiar with what it refers to.

I am Karen and I am a dance instructor in training. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA. I have been teaching for about 1 year and dancing since 1977.

I dance all the dances and have taught the following dances:

West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing, Foxtrot, Argentine Tango, Salsa, Waltz.

I got most of my experience in working with teachers in private lessons. However, recently, I decided that it was not enough to teach without some additional pedagogy training, so I am taking a Teacher Training Course at the Metronome Ballroom in San Francisco with Diane Jarmelo. I find that it is really great to be in a class with other teachers who are interested in the same level of learning that I am.

Also, I appreciate being able to practice my verbal skills with a group without being in an actual teaching situation (less pressure). It is particularly tricky to speak out the name of a step before leading it and do everything in time with the music. I find that I want to say the name of the step at the same time as I am doing it, but this is not enough warning for the class. This is something that doesn't come as easy as I would like. But I am sure that I will be mastering it, with a bit more practice.
