I'm assuming you're interested in dance competitions as well as social dancing.
First - if your present partner is driving you crazy. you won't enjoy your dancing or improve your technique. So you're right to look for a new partner.
In my experience, the VERY top priority is to find someone you can work with (for practices etc)and with a compatible temperament. If you're a quiet male, you don't want a fiery woman who'll eat your face off if you say one wrong word - and vice-versa of course.
Then look for things like height, availability for practice (or regular social dances), similar likes in music and dance styles etc.
And good luck. It's not easy to find the 'right' partner

I just lost my partner, too. Today, I posted an ad in the classified section of this site. I'm also going to keep my eyes and ears open when I go out to socials.

Happy partner hunting...
Regards, Hoofer

The way that one searches for a partner is often a function of several factors...where you are located (finding partners in Europe being somewhat different from the US)...your age or the age of partner you are looking for...your dance level and dance style (do you do Modern and live in Wapashaw, OK? That's a lot different from finding a partner for American Rhythm in Chicago)...and finallywhat your goals are (social vs. competitive).

I'll check back...if you fill me in on the above info, I could probably make some suggestions Or email me at:

I've just broken up with my partner because we just didn't get along. If you're not happy with your current partner and can't reconcile your differences, there's no reason to stay and keep suffering. I used to be afraid of leaving my partner because I didn't want to be partnerless. But now that I'm no longer with him I feel much happier. It might take me a while to find someone else, but I'll take that over an unhappy partnership.

While you're looking for a partner, you can always improve your dancing on your own by taking private/groups lessons and practicing by yourself or with casual practice partners. The more you improve, the more attractive you will be to potential partners. You might want to ask around and tell everyone around you you're looking. Word of mouth is usually the best way to find partners these days.

Don't despair. It's always the hardest thing to find your first partner so finding a partner subsequent times should be much easier!

Best of luck,

tango
