i'm just curious, but does anyone know of any ballroom dancing movies (videos or dvd's)? I love ballroom dancing, but I have hardly come across any films about it except for 'strictly ballroom' in which i've already seen. Thanks to anyone who has any ideas..

I have a couple of ballroom dance movies I absolutely love: "Shall We Dance?" is a delightful Japanese movie with subtitles. Don't be scared of subtitles --- everyone I know who has seen this movie absolutely loves it (might even be my favorite!). Then there's "Dance With Me" starring Vanessa Williams and Chayanne. Another movie I love --- great music, great dancing, beautiful people. Then there's the original "Dirty Dancing" with Patrick Swayze. Not really about ballroom dancing, but watching it after taking dancing lessons made it more enjoyable, as I recognized the terminology, etc. I hope you can find and enjoy these movies.

oh my goodness... when I first met my hubby, we found out that both of us had seen that movie and LOVED it. I figured any guy who liked that movie must be worth marrying.
He only agreed to dance lessons because the guy in the movie was a "regular joe" so it must be ok.

Where did you find "shall we dance"? I'm trying to get my hands on it (In Ireland) but haven't seen it anywhere

"Shall we dance" is a Japanese language movie, so you will likely have to special order it or order it on-line from Amazon or something similar. But it is the best ballroom dance movie I've seen.

FYI, There is an Amercican remake of this movie that is scheduled for release sometime later this spring or summer. The remake stars Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez.

I can't imagine Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez doing a better job than the Japanese did in "Shall We Dance". I know he can dance, but I think they both lack severely in the acting ability.

I got mine on ebay and it is on loan to my instructor. Definitely worth getting your hands on!
