Understanding Body Movement

I'm looking to get a broader understanding of body movement. I find it useful in my own dance education to understand why a specific part of your body move a certain way at a given time. I'm constantly getting bits and pieces from my coaches and dance partners, but I'm curious if there is something more in depth I can study about body movement that will give me a better understanding of things like...why I do a toe-flat in this instance, and why my CBM moves in such and such a way in some other move

My question is, does anyone have any suggestions on areas I could study to help (anatomy, etc...)? Any suggestions on books or videos that might help? Thanks in advance for your insight and help.

Try doing a search on kinesiology; it's the study of body movement. I know there are a lot of books on kinesiology and its relationship to dance movement.

Good luck!

This may not be of much direct help, but a good understanding of physics might help greatly - i studied physics at college and it's helping me to appreciate why certain things are done in a certain way. Doesn't help me do these things with great skill!! but it helps to understand why.
Another thing to do is 'step back' and see the movements of dancing as a whole. Take a simple slow waltz movement like a natural turn. If you rotate the upper body smoothly and continuously, you're forced to use CBM in executing the steps since the legs are moving essentialy in straight lines while the upper body is rotating through 120 degrees. Without CBM the upper body movement would be discontinuous and 'jerky'.
Dancing is full of stuff like this.
That's one of the factors that make it so fascinating and enjoyable
