Skipper,
The possibilities are limitless, but in terms of the most common approaches into an Oversway, I could probably break it down into three groups:
(1) Backing from a reverse figure. Many reverse figures leave you with your right foot free to move back, the left foot side (or side & slightly back), toe turned out into the oversway. Examples of reverse figures ending this way are Running Weave, Quick Open Reverse, Double Reverse Overspin, Telespin Reverse Pivot, Double Cross, and Tumble Turn, to name a few.
(2) Forward from promenade position. After a step forward & across in PP & CBMP (man RF, lady LF), step side & slightly forward into the oversway position. Almost any figure ending in promenade will work as a precede, such as an Open Telemark, Impetus, Outside Change to PP, etc. Also nice is to take any figure ending with man preparing to step O.P.R. side (such as chasse from PP, outside change, etc), and dance 3 forward steps, the first in O.P. position, then turning the lady to PP for 2 and 3. Then forward into the oversway.
(3) Side & slightly back (toe turned out) following a reverse heel turn action (Telemark, Telespin, etc). The most common precedes are Fallaway Reverse w/ Slip Pivot, Quick Open Reverse Pivot, or Tumble Turn Reverse Pivot. All very nice.
As I said, those are just the most common forms of entry. There are many other possibilities as well, some very creative and elaborate. If you're looking for a more interesting entrance, I'll be happy to share an idea or two with you.

Jonathan Atkinson
