Complicated stuff. Of course it would simplify problems but dance teachers often can't agree which figures are best to learn in which level and even more difficult: in which sequence a routine should be built up.
So be glad to have at least standardized elementary figures in the international ballroom and latin dances! I would be happy if this status would be reached for example in Salsa / Mambo, Argentine Tango etc. where contents of dance lessons differs a lot more.

On the other hand: shouldn't a dance pupil learn TO LEAD? In my opinion that's a very important field and I spend lots of time in my lessons to point out the importance of leading and its interaction with good technique.
