cdroge, If you do a search for Harry Smith Hampshire, The fist one up .There is some advice on the V. Waltz. He has a record of never being beaten in the V.Waltz. I dont know about the bisuits, the coffee was white with one sugar, I beleive. I don't know how anybody could even stand after 100 Fleckerl with or without the coffee and biscuits. You could also find his suggestions to the Dancing Authorities on re -examination for adjudicators to make sure they know what they are supposed to be judging. Whilst on this subject, only yesterday we had on pay TV. the European Modern Amatuer. At the end of each dance we at home see the marks. The British Champion an Italian, by one judge was being dropped to fifth place. He still won it. But that judge , I wonder if we were watching the same competition.

Don. YOu surprise me ,are you sure he was not drinking tea and from a china cup I would think, When we go camping everyone gets a good laugh at me drinking my tea from a china cup. When we won our first Novice comp there were 7 judges (unusual) 6 marked us first the seventh marked us 5th, she marked her own student first who came in 2cd,that is why it's best to have an uneven number of judges, but it usualy works out alright and the audiance always knows who the winner should be. I wish I had seen the comp that you saw on T.V. Cheers

It can be dissapointing when one judge marks way outside the group for an apparently unjust reason. But the system by which marks are combined is quite good at ignoring this: it's all about majority opinion of the judges, and an outlying mark that is several places away from the average has no more effect than one that is a single place away, except when the other judges are tied in their opininon. So for example, if there are five judges and you get 3 firsts, it doesn't matter if the other two put you 2nd or put you dead last - you already one on the majority. And there reverse is true too - 3 lasts gets you last, even with two firsts.

Yichin 1. I would forget 1/8 3/8 and so on. Just remember the dance as it is being danced today is moving sideways. Natural Turn man travells facing wall. 456 he is backing wall still travelling sideways. The swing gets you around, you on 123 your partner on 456. If you both work it is a breeze but only one swings at a time. Unfotunately the ladies don't do their half of the movement correctly. It can be like dancing with a sack of coal. The Reverse Turn is entirely different.

I did learn from asking , reading , and practicing . I believed that clear concepts is very important to both man and lady.To know why and how improves the quality of skill. Now, although I have not startted V waltz with my coach, I learnt the allignments, vertical posture, sideway swing, low heel, music phrase related ,little or no sway in reverse turn etc from all of you. I concentrate to my weight center to keep it vertically on the supporting point or points as soon as possible.(torso, pelvis, upper thigh flat with drawing back my navel to spine resulting from strong muscle contration in the regions of whlole abdominal wall, buttock. Head up )
I like reviewing your posts for very helpful reference data.

Well Done Yichen-1. I wish I could remeber all that stuff when dancing, usually I have a hard enough time just remebering what my coach tells me, allthough it's not the remembering but the doing, that's why we taped all our lessons and then i would write them down in a book . I still have records of lessons we had with,Glave,Barr,Hillier,Veyrasset,Culupe.Just to name a few,our reguler coach was a world finalist at Blackpool,so we have been fortunate to recieve top coaching.
