The heal is first high then low and then high again,it is not just low so who is to say wether or not it kisses the floor or used for further compresion, only the dancer knows. As the Lady dances ball heal and the man is taller he has to make sure on his rise that he does not pull her of her heal,so for a tall man it may make sence to use a heal.

Dave. you will more than likely get a few criticisms on this one if it is not read thoroughly. You are I think saying that in order to increase rise on the second quick the foot would have to leave the floor and not that the foot must leave the floor. As we know the foot, or in this case the toe. doesn't leave the floor.

Onlooker. No ,I used the wrong word when I said suspened in space,we always keep contact with the floor in waltz and foxtrot, even if only slightly. What I meant was that by flighting the body the foot would arrive in position, (to lower on )at the end of four, so we can easily lower on the ONE without having to slow the body down to the point of looking jerky as danced by beginers who try to dance strictly to the timing of( slow o ,quick, quick,)

Part Two: What I'm saying is that on the second quick(time wise) the body is still in flight and not ready to lower untill the one,for those of us, who dance the foxtrot on the second beat. Since the body is still in flight we could say that for the two quicks (time wise )we are at the same hight. But having discovered that the top pro's touch the floor with their left heel on the second step of the feather, I will have to start thinking differently about the whole Feather.
