East Coast Swing is sometimes single, double, or triple step depending on the speed of the music. I'm not sure about Jive (which is International, and I do American), but I believe it is really fast double step with a lot of foot lift. (Someone please correct me!)

But my suggestion applies to both: whichever one is taught in your area, learn that one. I think you would find yourself getting onto the dance floor and enjoying yourself more quickly with that than with other dances.
