Re: Friday night dance

Our studio-party is on sunday. Two weeks ago the studio did a bit of a theme night, digging out old greek pop-music (I'm in Greece) that was danceable, giving songs introductions like "I think most of you will remember this song, let's try dancing it as a ChaCha" (which helped avoid the situation Macha described above with "Love Shack"). The CDs used had been put together by one of the students. Towards the end of the evening the owner actually asked people to feel free to bring in any other stuff they find or might be aware of for future parties.
I'd suggest just talking with the person in charge or perhaps if you have a different instructor just talk to your instructor first to check if there is any reason why said songs are played over and over again.

But I know how you feel. The studio being in Greece has to also teach traditional greek dances and since they are being taught, they have to be danced during parties. And for these the studio uses the same CD each week. I've heard the same songs int he same order for 4 months now. When I went out for dinner and the restaurant put on this very CD the moment I stepped through the door I nearly turned on the spot and walked back out.
