I worked with a male instructor for about three years when I first started dancing. He really helped me. He would show me something and I could pick it up faster than with a lady teacher. After 3 years I did get a little tired of dancing with him.

The female teacher that I dance with now is much better for me to dance with.
I still get occasional lessons from the male teacher. I think it's best to have both a male and female teacher. Now, I am better at picking up technique and movement from my female teacher. Especially if she wears pants during our lessons.

However, if I am learning new complicated technique--I need a male instructor.
