Re: What is a great partner dancer?

In partner dancing you are dancing as a team or couple and you are trying to bring out the best in each other, but everthing is not always equal in abilities. Most amateur women partners that have had some dance training, usually patiently wait for the amateur male partner to catch up with them, so that the partnership can improve. Even the teachers will spend lots more time with the guy in the beginning. It is somewhat humiliating and one needs a strong ego to endure this. Some male partners will not take on a partner that is better technically than them since it is deflating to their male ego.

For example, in one of Shirly Ballis's
interviews she discussed the issue of additional training and working with Corky to improve their partnership. She was already a champion with several partners and known for her precise technique and footwork. Corky had talent, but not near as much training and experience.

Even two well trained dancers with equal or great technique, you never can tell how well they can dance together. There is lots of mental issues in the mix--especially checking ones ego in at the door before dancing.
