Charleston is it's own dance and was also the original pattern that developed into the lindy hop. You may be asked to learn 20's charleston which is what you have probably seen videos of flappers doing from the 20's with small kicks. Most people who dance charleston today are doing it as part of lindy hop. It's very easy to do the basic. for ladies: (with right foot) rock step back, kick step forward with weight change, then left foot kick (forward) rock (Back) step. 8 count.
