It would seem thedancingchanel.tv is due to go live around the 20th of May, the first full screen video broadcast is expected to be a live broadcast of the semi-finals and finals each day of the Blackpool Dance Festival.

The lack of TV coverage is the main driving force behind this project, it is hoped that a global audience will make the point that good quality video dance available online is something dance fans want and will support.

The channel will launch with excepts of previous dance festivals and will also offer details of login and site membership will also be available..

I understand the company involved (Quaser Video) are expecting demand for viewer access to be high and the company is asking those interested in receiving details of the new service to send an email requesting full details to info@thedancingchannel.tv prior to the launch date.

Don't leave it till the last day, some setup is needed. I've been watching last years Foxtrot , which is a sample. They show the whole Foxtrot from start to finish. Beautiful pictures.

Thedancingchannel went live this evening (00:01 20th May 2007). Looking at the site it seems they are doing a lot more than the live broadcast of the Professional Rising Stars semi-finals.

the website gives details of ALL THE EVENTS for thew whole of the Blackpool Festival. It is also making the events available afterwards for viewing anytime you like...

They claim a near broadcast quality and large screen pictures, the video examples they have on the site look very good. It would be great to finally get this Dance Festival available for everyone to enjoy, especially those that can't get there in person...

I checked out the site and viewed the sample videos. They are of good quality so this looks promissing... They seem to be charging per event (more exp. if live) but I did not see anything regarding how long you'll be able to view the videos you've purchased. So far, this is what is being offered:

- Friday 25th May 2007-Professional Rising Stars Latin
- Saturday 26th May 2007-Amateur Under 21's Latin
- Sunday 27th May 2007-Amateur Rising Stars Ballroom, Amateur Rising Stars Latin
- Monday 28th May 2007-Professional Rising Stars Ballroom
- Tuesday 29th May 2007-Amateur Under 21's Ballroom, Amateur Latin
- Wednesday 30th May 2007-Professional Latin
- Thursday 31st May 2007-Amateur Ballroom
- Friday 1st June 2007-Professional Ballroom

I did not see any times for the live broadcasts. Finally, I have not watched a lot of Blackpool but the little that I have seen always has terrible musak. Is this really what they play during the comps?!!

Magda. The music is a live band. There are no vocals. The band does not overpower the dancers. A live band is used instead of a disk. One reason is a disk may have 2 1/2 minutes on it. At Blackpool the band will play on untill the judges are satisfied. Anybody going there for the first time had better get used to not dancing for a minute twenty seconds.

Margaret: you have to set up an account (login name and password) once you get on the site, and there is a charge per event. You have to pay in advance and you check whether you have all the software you need ahead of time.

The dates of each event is posted on the site but I did not see the times. Btw, I asked them how long you could watch the non-live videos for and was told "24 hour from the start of first viewing of that programme".

Hope that helps!
